Congrats to the Elmwood-Murdock Speech team

Coach Keri Hogue said "The students did an amazing job at state giving their best for the team. We have our two seniors who are veterans, Gus Pope and Rylee Hogue, who were dedicated leaders and provided support in a variety of ways to the 10 team members who had never participated in Speech. We took six events to the State Competition: Humorous Prose, Poetry, Informative Speaking, Duet Acting, Oral Interpretation of Drama, and Entertainment Speaking. Three of the events made it to finals, two other events placed 8th in the State. These accomplishments and the support system the team had created all contributed to our fifth place finish in the State. Therefore, I believe this great group of students made an amazing mark not just at State but for our program as well. Three students who will return to the team next year have already set the goal to each participate in two and/or three events next year. Mrs. Smith and I couldn't be any more proud of this group of students. It's already exciting to see what next season will bring. Our medalist results were: Rylee Hogue: State Champion in Humorous Prose Gus Pope: 2nd Place in Poetry Bri Ross: 5th in Entertainment Speaking

As a team, we placed 5th in the State! We are also thankful for the support within the community but in our extended communities as well such as Louisville, Murray, Syracuse, Malcolm, and even David City. The Fine Arts communities are some of the best because it is a culture of support and desire to celebrate student success as a whole. Granted, there is a competitive aspect, but the overall atmosphere is of belonging, encouragement, and camaraderie. With the Fine Arts being greatly impacted by the pandemic as an entirety, the bond has even grown stronger to keep the Arts alive. Overall, it has been both a challenge and a privilege to coach Speech this year, and I am thankful for Mrs. Smith who was our Assistant Coach, who enabled the students to have more input and support to help their pieces thrive. As we always say, "It is a great day to be a Knight!" In this case, it was a great season to be a Knight in Speech."

From our friends in Murray:
Demolition of the old railroad bridge on Highway 1 in Murray started March 1st.  One lane traffic is being electronically controlled, so please be patient at the lights when waiting, then driving through. Work is expected to continue through the summer months, so plan your travel accordingly. Be careful, watch for workers and machinery and make safety the priority.

Please be patient as appointments fill up quickly.

You are responsible for scheduling your own appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.  If you need assistance, please consider asking a friend or family member to assist you in scheduling an appointment.

If you have any questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine or if you are having difficulties scheduling an appointment, please call the Sarpy/Cass Department at 402-339-4334 and press 1.  Phones are answered Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
