State Senator Rob Clements Announces Reelection Campaign to the Nebraska Legislature

ELMWOOD, NEBRASKA – Rob Clements, an Elmwood banker, insurance agent and tax preparer, who was first appointed to the Nebraska Legislature District 2 in 2017 and was subsequently elected in 2018, will seek reelection in 2022. District 2 currently includes Cass County and parts of Sarpy and Otoe Counties.“Over the last five years, I have worked to lower property taxes, hold down the growth in state spending, protect the Second Amendment and defend innocent life,” said Clements, age 70. “It would be my honor to continue serving the community where I have spent most of my life.” “Cass County has been my family’s home for generations, and I’m proud to have been born and raised here. While serving in the Legislature, I have introduced and prioritized bills to promote individual liberty and have worked to maintain the financial stability of the state.”

“One of the biggest fights in the Legislature during my tenure has been over how to reduce the property tax burden. I am proud that the current two-year state budget includes $1.7 billion in property tax relief, the largest ever.  However, more needs to be done. The ever-increasing property tax burden is hurting Nebraska families, farmers, small businesses, and seniors. The State must search for a long-term solution that addresses both property tax reform and K-12 school funding reform.”

Senator Clements is known for his conservative stances on state spending, Second Amendment protections and Pro-Life legislation. “We must continue to budget conservatively.   Just like Nebraska families, the State must control spending and spend within its means.  When State spending increases, the tax burden on Nebraskans increases.”  “Gun owner rights have always been a priority to me.  I have supported and continue to support constitutional carry and an enhanced castle doctrine among other legislation to preserve the right to keep and bear arms.”

“I have also been a steadfast supporter of pro-life legislation. I co-sponsored bills to ban dismemberment abortion in Nebraska and to ensure education and materials about abortion reversal be shared with women seeking abortion.”

Workforce development and public safety have also been priorities of Senator Clements during his time on the Legislature’s budget-writing appropriations committee. Clements supported $4 million in increases for career college scholarships for key workforce jobs and $10 million to expand rural workforce housing in the 2019 budget.

In addition to serving on Appropriations, Senator Clements serves as the chairman of the Rules Committee, and on the Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee, the Legislature’s Planning Committee, and the Eastern Service Area Child Welfare Contract Special Investigative and Oversight Committee of the Legislature, which was created in 2021 to investigate the state’s contract to manage Omaha-area child welfare cases with Kansas-based nonprofit St. Francis ministries

Senator Clements is the President of the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation, board member of Victory Church, Adjutant and bugler in the Sons of the American Legion, and a former member of the Government Relations board in the Nebraska Bankers Association.

Senator Clements married Peggy Sue Bogenreif in December of 1972. They have five children and thirteen grandchildren.
